The Papua New Guinean Discovery

Between June 2, 2005 and August 7, 2005 I went to Papua New Guinea with Wycliffe Bible Translators. It was a time when God confirmed that He wants me there for His work. At the time I am a student at Davis College in New York State studying and preparing to go back to PNG full time.

Devotions from February 9, 2005

Yesterday, I was doing my devotions and some great verses popped out at me from the reading in Isaiah chapter 40. This chapter has so much to grasp from its 31 verses, but there are a few that stood out to me as I am preparing to go to PNG this summer. Verses 12-18 say: “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, Measured heaven with a span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance? Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, And are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing. And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, Nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt offering. All nations before Him are as nothing, And they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless. To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him?” (NKJV).

These verse I must have read at least five times to get them in my head. In preparing for the trip to PNG with all the different stresses of school and raising funds I need to remember that I work for the Creator of the Universe. Who can measure the water in His hand, and who can measure the heavens? God is above all powers and strengths and stresses that we will ever have. It goes on later to say that He has a name for every star. If our Heavenly Father can be that personal to give every star a name, how much more so will he take care of the funds that need to come in for the trip or to get prayer support. I might have a plan, Wycliffe might have a plan, but God ultimately has the best plan and it is His I want to follow as I prepare to serve Him in PNG.

Continue to pray that I follow God’s leading as I get ready to go to PNG in June. I KNOW God will supply prayer support and financial support. His will be done.
